American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class
The Academy is now providing an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class. This class provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. It is a blended learning course, a combination of at home and in class learning. The Blended learning structure will include lectures, activities, videos and hands on practice, as well as water sessions (to include scenarios and hands on practice), and two final written exams. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for two years.

PREREQUISITES FOR THE COURSE
- Must be at least 15 years of age by last day of the in-class portion of courses.
- Must complete all online at home learning before the start of class.
PREREQUISITES SWIMMING SKILLS
- Swim 300 Yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Must demonstrate rhythmic breathing and breath control. Swimming on back and or side is not allowed. (Goggles may be used for this portion of the pre-test.)
- Tread water for 2 minutes only using legs.
- Complete a brick test:
Within 1 minute and 40 seconds, swim down and retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the 5 feet.(Goggles are not permitted for this portion of the test.)
